Texas Receives Area Development Magazine Award

The Houston Business Journal has reported that Texas has received yet another award touting our business climate — the 2015 Gold Shovel Award from Area Development Magazine. Billions of dollars in new development and the relocation of Toyota’s headquarters to Plano — along with some 4000 jobs — were among the contributing factors to our state’s ongoing business success. JGC American Inc. also plans to add roughly 1000 jobs for its new Westchase location in Houston. Of course, the concerns over […]

We’re No. 1

This article at the Dallas Morning News proves what we at the State Bank of Texas have long known: Texas is the best place in the country to do business. Sean Lester writes, “Despite the state of Texas’ recent decline in job creation, the Lone Star state appears to still be the country’s top destination for doing business and creating business opportunity.”

Expanding on expansion in Frisco

Mixed use developments are areas designed to blend residential, retail and office/commercial spaces in a pedestrian-friendly environment. And they’ve done very well in the Dallas area. In Plano, the Shops at Legacy are a similar success. Its been estimated that some […]

More good news for the construction industry

Universities all over the United States were, like other institutions, hit by the recession. But as the recovery continues, university finances are doing so as well. Which means construction projects that were put on hold are now roaring to life. Private universities are leading the way, not being dependent on state budgets. Yale, with its generous donors, has raised $500 million dollars to construct two new residential colleges. Massive projects are similarly underway at Notre Dame. And Texas, of course, is building […]

Dallas Planning A $250M Expansion of Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center

Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Dallas

Dallas is apparently planning a major expansion of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown. Dallas Business Journal reports that the expansion will be paid for by a 2 percentage point increase in Dallas’ hotel occupancy tax, bringing the city’s overall hotel occupancy tax up to 17%. The Convention Center is already quite large — nearly a quarter-mile in length!?! So, an expansion would make the place gargantuan!

Positive Economic Indicators Showing Up In North Texas

Downtown Dallas, Texas.

The economic health of an area or a state can be difficult to evaluate accurately, but you can get a good idea by looking at a couple of factors: new businesses, or businesses that relocate to an area, and tourism. By both standards, Texas seems to be doing well. In recent years, dozens of companies have moved out of California, and many found new homes in Texas – partly because Texas is a no-state-income-tax state, and partly because of economic […]
