Texas nabbed three of the top five spots, with Houston and Austin eclipsing long-time powerhouse San Francisco. Denver and Dallas-Fort Worth completed the top of the list.

Houston moved up to the top spot from second place over the last year, the expanding energy industry there driving demand. Austin moved up from seventh place, and lower costs of living and doing business in Dallas-Fort Worth boosted the metroplex.

With three major Texas metropolitan areas officially among the best prospects for investors, both commercial and residential construction can be expected to continue their upward trends, though housing might cool slightly in 2015.
